CEP 810 Teaching for Understanding
Instructors R. Houtman and E.Stone
The first course usually taken in the Masters of Educational Technology program is CEP 810. This class focuses on developing an understanding of teaching with technology. I was introduced to the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework, asked to explore my professional learning networks (PLN), and provided the basic theories behind learning and understanding. Creating my own PLN using Popplet was very beneficial to gauge where my learning is centered and areas to grow and expand personally and professionally.
CEP 811 Adapting Innovative Technologies in Education
Instructor A. Pietrowski
CEP 811 was a wonderful class that opened me up to the Maker Movement. In this course I was tasked with using the Makey Makey kit to modify a piece of everyday material into a technology tool. I was able to take a normal map, and convert it to an interactive tool using a military coin I was awarded. This class allowed me to explore how you can repurpose things with technology and learning in mind.

CEP 812 Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice
Instructor A. Keller
CEP 812 allowed me to explore the issues facing teaching and technology today by examining wicked problems. These are the problems that if solved could radically improve the educational system, but are also the problems for which there are no easy answers. I along with other group members were able to create an infographic that explored our wicked problem and the 3 factors that contributed to it as well as our ideas or solutions.
CEP 813 Electronic Assessment for Teaching and Learning
Instructors C. Gallagher & S. Greenhalgh
CEP 813 allowed me to really dig deep into the differences between formative and summative assessments as well as how they can and should be used electronically. I had already been using these assessments but this course allowed to me examine if they were truly gauging my students abilities and growth in my class or if they were failing to provide me with credible and accurate data that I could use to determine what students did and didn't know.

CEP 815 Technology and Leadership
Dr. A. Yadav & S. Greenhalgh
CEP 815 opened my eyes to examining the issues our schools and districts may be facing when it comes to the use of technology in education. By working closely with others in the class and our professors we were able to craft a mission and vision for our current or future work locations that centered around our philosophies regarding educational technology. The vision I created for my school district is both one I still believe in but also one that I am passionately working on to have it become a reality and not just an idea. This mission and vision has led to the opportunity to possibly make the transition out of the classroom and into a role at my Central Office that will allow me to work more closely with teachers throughout the district. I also got to explore the ins and outs of how we would communicate any new changes I would like to make for my school and district by engaging in scenario role playing, where our answers where then critiqued.
CEP 820 Teaching Students Online
Instructors Dr. A. Heintz & C. Richardson
CEP 820 was the first course I took that allowed me to examine the integration of my current classes being taught and the use of a learning management system or LMS. I was able to explore the layouts, use, and functionality of various LMS platforms from both a teacher and student perspective. This allowed me to create content that meet the objectives I have to meet from my district while also converting my traditional material into an electronic format. I also had to craft lessons that were purposeful and took into account the technology my students had access to and how assigned material would look to them, how they would turn it in and most important the need for good feedback to still be provided.

CEP 800 Learning in School and Other Settings
Instructors Dr. C. Roseth & C. Cheng
CEP 800 was by far the most personal class that I took in MAET program. This course had me explore not only what type of learners I am, but also how that impacts the way I teach. The traditional ways, and settings in which students today learn and to a greater extent we teach in is rapidly changing. Developing the ability to not only recognize this shift but also to hone the skills necessary to adapt to is is paramount to a teachers future success in this industry. I must be able to meet my students where they are not where I want them to be, and that means both the location of learning and the format as well.
CEP 822 Approaches to Education Research
Instructors Dr. E. Wong, C. Cheng, M. Lei & J. Westdal
CEP 822 was a very informative class that delved into the theory and practice of educational research. I was able to learn how to examine the credibility and purpose behind various research projects. The lasting takeaway that I continue to grapple with is the real world application of the numerous educational studies completed each year and what is a perceived disconnect to me between the information or data gathered and the implementation phases that is often overlooked. Research should be grounded in both data, theory and practicality to have a true benefit to the teachers and learners in our classrooms today.

CEP 807 Proseminar in Education Technology
Dr. M. Kohler, S. Greenhalgh, B. Dillman & S. Keenan-Lechel
In my Capstone course, I was creating a digital portfolio, which encompassed all of my progress over the course of the MAET program. Interacting with fellow peers and instructors to give and receive feedback is a pivotal part of this class. The digital portfolio not only serves as proof of learning but also as a way to showcase what we have achieved. I plan on using this portfolio to both reference my current and past learnings but more importantly to share with prospective employers who I would like to work for in the hopes of attaining a Technology Director position.
CEP 816 Technology, Teaching and Learning Across the Curriculum
Instructor W. Marsland
CEP 816 forces you to examine the content you are currently using with your students and to find ways to use technology to improve the learning experience for the students. I am able to take material that is not engaging or stimulating to the students and reformat them to enhance the learning and the experience. We have examined the impact of our material on a students cognitive load as well as how we can better improve learning. The focus on understanding new media text and technology is a skill that will last well after this class is over. We also have been able to think about the cognitive load that we place on our students and to assess current and future work to determine if the levels of load are extraneous or purposeful and how can we better use technology to assist with that.
